EPs and procedures during EPs | C'mon More EPs? Really? | I love EPs while eating my lunch | I want to fly for the airlines....wait no more EPs! | Super Cool Catergory |

Engine operating rpm, with zero to near zero torque must be maintained throughout the approach. Torque applied for landing should be used at low altitudes to aid in preventing seizure of the transmission.
What should be done during a TRANSMISSION OIL HOT or LOW PRESSURE caution during landing
|
The Nose of the helicopter will turn left when power is reduced
What are the indications for a high power setting in a fixed pitch situation
|
1. Fixed pedal - land
2. Loss of tail rotor thrust - Autorotate
Procedures for fixed pitch while at a hover
|
1. Autorotate
2. EMER SHUTDOWN
Clutch fails to Re-Engage
|
1. BAT, STBY and MAIN GEN switches - OFF
2. Land as soon as Possible
Electrical Fire in Flight
|
1. Pedal input has no effect on helicopter trim
2. Nose of the helicopter turns to the right (left sideslip) 3. Roll of the fuselage along the longitudinal axis 4. Nose down tucking will also be present
What are the 4 indications present during a complete loss of tail rotor thrust
|
Helicopter nose will turn to the right when power is applied
What are the indications for a low power setting in a fixed pitch situation
|
1. Enter autorotation (power off)
2. Maintain airspeed above min rate of descent 3. If running landing possible complete auto with touchdown speed 15-25 kts 4. If running landing NOT possible start to descel fro 75' so that forward ground speed is at a minimum when aircraft is 10-20; execute the touchdown with rapid collective pull prior to touchdown in a level attitude with minimum ground roll
Procedures for Loss of Tail Rotor Components
|
1. Relax pressure on the collective control
2. Make a significant collective application either up or down 3. Increase collective friction
Collective Bounce
|
1. Circuit Breakers - Out. Check for indications of the source of the fire.
2. MAIN GEN switch - STBY GEN 3. BAT switch - ON 4. Circuit breakers - In one at a time in the priority required, GEN BUS RESET first. When malfunctioning circuit is identified pull the applicable circuit breaker out.
If a landing as soon as possible cannot be made during an electrical fire in flight the defective circuits may be identified and isolated as follows
|
Airspeeds bellow 30-40 kts the sideslip may become uncontrollable and the helicopter will begin to revolve on the vertical axis.
What is the warning associated with airspeed during a complete loss of tail rotor thrust
|
1. If control can be maintained in powered flight the best solution is to maintain control with power and accomplish a running landing as soon as practicable.
2. If control cannot be maintained close the throttle immediately and accomplish an autorotational landing
Procedures for reduced power situation in a fixed pitch setting
|
Lower collective to regain control and allow the aircraft to touchdown with little if any forward movement
Loss of Tail Rotor Effectiveness
|
1. Start switch - Press. The switch must be held until EGT is in the normal range
2. Throttle - Off. Must be closed immediately after the starter switch is pressed. 3. FUEL switches - OFF
Fire During Engine Start
|
1. BAT switch - OFF
2. Land as soon as possible 3. EMER SHUTDOWN after landing
Overheated Battery
|
1. If no immediate safe landing area present continue flight to a suitable landing area at or above min rate of descent as. Degree of roll and sideslip may be varied by varying throttle and/or collective.
2. When landing area reached AUTOROTATE agove min rate of descent airspeed 3. If landing area suitable touchdown above ETL using throttle to maintain directional control 4. If running landing not possible start to descel at about 75' so forward airspeed is minimal when at 10-20 feet. Execute touchdown with rapid collective pull just prior to touchdown with min ground speed.
Loss of complete tail rotor thrust procedure
|
1. Maintain control with power and airspeed 40-70 kts
2. If needed reduce rpm (not bellow 91%) to control sideslip 3. Continue powered flight to a suitable landing area where a running landing can be done. 4. On final reduce rpm to 91% and accomplish running landing
Procedures for reduced power situation in a fixed pitch setting
|
1. Autorotate
2. EMER SHUTDOWN
Main Drive Shaft Failure
|
EMER SHUTDOWN
Fire on the Ground
|
Doors and windows and vents - Open
Smoke and Fume Elimination
|
1. HYD CONT switch - select opposite position
2. Land as soon as practical in an area that permits a running landing. Maintain a/s at or above ETL at touchdown.
Cyclic Hardover
|
Heading cannot be controlled with pedals
What are the indications for a fixed pitch setting at a hover
|
1. Throttle - Full Open
2. Land as soon as Possible
Clutch fails to Disengage
|
With Power: 1. Land as soon as Possible 2. EMER SHUTDOWN after landing / Without Power: 1. Autorotate 2. EMER SHUTDOWN
Fire During Flight with power and without power
|
1. Airspeed - adjust as necessary to attain the most comfortable level of control movements
2. HYD CONT circuit breaker - Out If hydraulic power is not restored: 3. HYD CONT circuit breakers - In. 4. HYD CONT switch - OFF Land as soon as practicable in an area that allows a running landing with power. Maintain a/s above ETL until touchdown.
