What is Asthma
The spasm and narrowing of airways
100
Mouth/Nose
I am the first part of the Respiratory system
100
To filter out dust particles in the air
What is the function of the nose
100
Because you wouldn't be able to remove waste products
Why can't we just continually inhale air to constantly provide oxygen to our cells
200
What is URI
Infection of the trachea, larynx, throat, or nose
200
Larynx
I contain the vocal cords
200
Bronchioles
What is the sub-division of the bronchi
200
Because the alveoli increase the total surface area allowing for greater oxygen exchange
Why does oxygen exchange happen with a bunch of tiny alveoli and not with the entire lung
300
infection of the lungs usually caused by bacteria
What is Pneumonia
300
Alveoli
I am the tiny air sacs that exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide
300
To prevent food from entering the trachea
What is the function of the epiglottis
300
It is so that the mouth can be used for taste, mechanical digestion, and talking. While the nose can be used for smelling, and filtration.
What is the purpose of having both a mouth cavity and a nasal cavity if the epiglottis separates food and air.
400
When alveoli become stretched out and are unable to remove pollutants
What is Emphysema
400
Trachea
I connect the Pharynx and Larynx to the Bronchial tubes and lungs
400
Diaphragm
What is the muscle that divides the chest cavity from the abdominal cavity
400
COPD, Asthma, Emphysema
I am a 54 year old woman. Lately I've been noticing that I have a lack of breath when doing simple activities. I have had frequent headaches and have been irritable. I quit smoking last month. What do I have? Name 2 possible disorders affecting her breath
500
A running nose
What is Rhinorrhea
500
Paranasal sinuses
I directly follow the nasal cavity but come before the Pharynx
500
They help warm, filter and moisten the air
What is the function of the paranasal sinuses
500
When the diaphragm muscle relaxes it expands the chest cavity creating negative pressure. This allows air to flow into the lungs. Which the diaphragm contracts the lung cavity is constricted, this forces air out of the lungs.
Knowing that positive pressure forces air out and negative pressure pulls air in, describe the process by which the diaphragm assist with breathing.
