What is an Allele
Different variations or forms of a gene. Occupies a given locus position on a chromosome.
What is Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)
The genetic material that carries information about an organism and is passed from parent to offspring.
What is Hybrid
Two different alleles.
What is Pedigree
A chart or family tree that tracks which members of a family have a particular trait.
What are Genes
Factors that control a trait.
What is Probability
Predict the results of a particular event. A number that describes how likely it is that an event will occur.
What is Purebred
An organism that is the offspring of many generations that have the same trait.
What is Phenotype
An organism's phenotype is
its physical appearance, or visible traits. |
What is a Dominant Allele
Trait always shows up in the organism when the allele is present
What is Sex-linked genes
Passed from parent to child on a sex chromosome. Eg. red-green colorblindness.
What is Multiple Alleles
Three or more forms of a gene that code for a single trait.
What is karyotype
Picture of all the chromosomes in a cell.
What is Codominance
Neither dominant or recessive, both alleles are expressed in the offspring.
What is Sex chromosomes
XY or XX. They carry genes that determine whether a person is male or female.
What is Heterozygous
A person who has one recessive allele for a trait and one dominant allele.
What is Genotype
Different forms of characteristics physical, behaviour, predisposition to a medical condition.
What is Genotype
Genetic makeup or allele combination eg. Tt, Hh
What is Recessive Alleles
Hidden whenever the dominant allele is present.
What is Homozygous
Two alleles the same
