This street in D.C was historically known as “Black Broadway” from the early 1900's to the 1950's and was a thriving center of Black culture, businesses, and entertainment particularly during the Jim Crow era

What is Go-Go music?
This type of music is a style of funk heavy on bass and percussion and originated in DC, in the late 1970s. During this initial surge, Mayor Barry put on a Summer Youth Employment Program, inspiring teens to bring instruments and bond over the music.
