When the Holy Prophet (saw) left Mecca to settle down in Medina, a companion of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Suhaib (ra) also wanted to go to Medina and settle down there. But the Meccans would not let him go because of his assets in Mecca. Hazrat Suhaib (ra) offered to surrender all his property which Meccans accepted and allowed him to leave. On hearing this story, the Holy Prophet said:
This was the best bargain of your life

When the persecution reached its extreme, the Holy prophet (saw) assembled his followers and pointing to the west told them of a land across the sea where men were not murdered because of change of faith, where they could worship God unmolested, and where there was a just king.

A delegate of Chiefs of Mecca met the Holy Prophet's uncle, Abu Talib and asked him that he should talk to his nephew, Mohammad (saw) and stop him from saying anything against their idols. He sent for the Prophet and explained to him the demands made by the elders of Mecca.

Even if the Meccans were to place sun on my right and moon on my left, I would not desist from preaching the truth of One God. I must go on doing so until I die.

The people of Taif did not accept the Holy prophet (saw) and ill-treated him and his companion so much so that both got badly wounded. The town vagabonds chased them several miles out of the town. The Holy Prophet (saw) was sorely grieved and dejected when an angel descended upon him.

The Holy Prophet (saw) wrote letters to various Kings, such as Roman Emperor, King of Iran, and King of Abyssinia.

King of Abyssinia, Negus. He showed great regard and respect for it. He held it up to his eyes, descended from the throne and ordered an ivory box for it. Then he deposited it in the box and said "While this letter is safe, my kingdom is safe".

At that time, the Holy Prophet sa received the following revelation:
The Romans have been defeated in the land nearby, and they, after their defeat, will be victorious in a few years— Allah's is the command before and after that—and on that day will the believers rejoice with the help of Allah. He helps whom He pleases; and He is the Mighty, the Merciful. Allah has made this promise. Allah breaks not His promise, but most men know not (30: 3-7). How this was fulfilled?

Meccan Muslims continued to leave Mecca for Medina gradually. The Chiefs assembled and decided that the Holy Prophet (saw) be assassinated, and surrounded the house. By Allah's Grace, the Holy Prophet (saw) and one of his companions left the house in the secrecy of night without enemy noticing it and took shelter in a cave and remained there for two days.
