As the dragon destroys the town, the thrush chooses Bard to tell the location of the bare spot on smaug's chest. When the dragon flies over, Bard kills him with an arrow to the chest. During the dragon's attack, Bard shows seriousness of purpose, great courage, and leadership, all typically heroic attributes. after The attack, Bard shows humility to the master and selflessness and helping the wounded.
