~Harlem was a neighborhood in shambles before the Narrator came in to unite them. After the Narrator leaves, the community once again disappears, as Ras stirs up the people once again.

Hester Prynne

~The entire Puritan community around her ostracized her and ignored her existence as a result of her committing adultery with Reverend Dimsdale.

Baby Suggs

~Baby Suggs used her gift of being a persuasive speaker to unite the community and bring them hope.

The narrator says black equality

~While there was "equality" in the community, there are two different communities at Battle Royal, the Black Community and the White Community. The White Community was considered superior to the Black Community.

Dimmesdale

~Although they had had an affair bearing a child, they could not be together or Dimmesdale would lose his standing as a reverend.
